Bronze Health Package

This takes around 15 - 20 minutes per employee and includes:

Health Questionnaire
This is a vital part of the assessment as it allows the nurse consultant to identify current or potential health problems. The questionnaire is usually given to each employee to complete prior to their assessment.

Urine Test
A sample of urine can give early warning about a large number of common diseases, such as diabetes, kidney disease and urinary tract infections. The substances that we check include:

Glucose - over two million people in the UK have diabetes and it is believed that there are one million who have not yet been diagnosed. If glucose is detected early, considerable damage to health can be prevented.

Blood - blood in the urine could indicate kidney damage, stones, a tumour or a urinary tract infection.

Ketones - the presence of ketones may indicate uncontrolled diabetes, metabolic disorders or abnormal nutritional conditions.

pH - alkaline urine may indicate kidney disease whereas acidic urine may indicate lung disease or dehydration.

Protein - the presence of protein may indicate liver or heart disease, urinary tract, bladder or prostate problems or a tumour.

Blood Pressure Check

Approximately 16 million people have high blood pressure in the UK and many more may be unaware they have this condition. In most cases, a raised blood pressure indicates damaged arteries and is a sign that damage may be quite advanced. However, the sooner it is detected, the better chance a person has to prevent further damage to health. The nurse consultant also records the pulse pressure from the BP reading, which is a predictor of stroke risk.

Pulse Check
A normal, resting pulse should be between 60 - 70 beats per minute. People who are unfit or have cardiovascular disease will often have a faster pulse rate, unless they take medication that affects this. The nurse consultant checks for rate, rhythm and strength of the pulse.

Weight and Height
Checking the employee’s weight and height will determine Body Mass Index (BMI). This is a scoring system used by the medical profession to ascertain if someone is underweight, overweight or obese for their height. Other factors, such as physical exercise, fat measurement using a fat analyser, and wrist measurement will also be taken into consideration.

Waist Measurement
The nurse consultant will check this measurement as it is a useful predictor of cardiovascular disease.

Pulse Wave Analysis

Pulse Health Screening is the only company in the UK offering this test by qualified medical practitioners. The pain-free medical device has undergone clinical trials in St. Thomas’ Hospital, London. It measures arterial stiffness which is an early indicator of cardiovascular disease, even before blood pressure starts to rise. The device is also able to estimate the biological age of a person’s arteries. It is not unusual to find someone aged 40 with the arteries equivalent to someone of 65. By discovering this early, it is possible to prevent the development of cardiovascular disease by implementing simple lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle Advice
At the end of the health assessment, the nurse consultant gives appropriate diet and lifestyle advice according to the results from each employee. This is given in a booklet and also includes a record of the results from each test.

If any abnormality is detected during the assessment which requires further investigation by a doctor, the employee will be given a letter to take to their GP.

Price: £49.50 per employee

Gold Health Package

This assessment takes approximately an hour and includes all of the above in the Silver Health Package plus the following blood tests:

Biochemistry/Haematology Profile
Venous blood sample which tests for Urea and Electrolytes, Liver Function, Glucose, Lipids, Full Blood Count, Diff, ESR

Thyroid Function Profile
Venous blood sample which tests for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) + Free T4

High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein
Venous blood sample which is a particularly useful marker for cardiovascular disease by detecting inflammation.

It is recommended that a fasting sample is taken for the most accurate results, although this is not essential. A fasting sample requires the employee to refrain from eating or drinking (except water) for at least nine hours.

A personalised booklet with all the test results from the assessment and blood sample is given to the employee a few days later.

Price: £200 per employee

Homocysteine Test

A raised homocysteine level in the blood is a more accurate marker for cardiovascular disease than cholesterol. It can also indicate other serious diseases. This test requires a fasting sample and only requires a finger prick sample of blood. The test can be performed by an employee at home and posted to the laboratory in the envelope provided.

Price: £75

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
A raised PSA level in the blood may indicate prostate cancer. If the test is borderline, a further test called a Free PSA is performed on the same sample to give a more accurate reading.

Price: £36

Allergy Screen Quick Test (30 minutes)
This is a simple finger-prick test to establish if you have an allergy to inhalants or food. The result is available within half an hour. A further test would be required to discover which allergens may be the cause. Prices for these vary. Please click here for the full list.

Hepatitis B Immunity Check

If employees are required to have a Hepatitis B vaccination for their job, an immunity check is required 3 months after their initial course. A second test should be done five years later to see if a booster vaccination is necessary. Some employees are charged by their GP for this blood test but if you would like to offer it to your employees, we can arrange to visit your premises and test the members of staff who are due for an immunity check.
